In the recession it is important to remain positive, trust in your business and it will flourish. It is the most difficult time the economy has seen since the 1930’s and it won’t get any easier with a negative attitude. Make sure you are doing all you can to help your business survive.
These are 3 of the biggest steps to follow:
Choose your marketing techniques carefully. You should be logging at all times every technique and marketing effort you try, whether it be effective or no help at all. Cut down or rid completely those marketing efforts that aren't paying off for you, or repair them so that they do boost leads and sales. You should also try direct marketing for new ideas, this way you aren’t wasting money if it doesn’t work out.
Advertise even more than before! Although you may think that this isn’t a good idea and it will cost you more, you will see the benefits. Just think, your competition will have decreased advertising to save money (as most companies will see it as the safest thing to do to cut costs). That means there is more space for you to advertise, McDonald’s tripled their advertising whilst Burger King reduced theirs massively. McDonalds generated more business.
Cut costs cautiously. Just because there is a crisis, doesn’t mean you have to cut your prices. Just think when the crisis is over, you can’t just all of a sudden up your prices again, so cut costs carefully on things that won’t harm your business later on, or you may not have a business later on.
